Founded in December 1999, the Bay Area Tailhook Ready Room (“BAT”) operates as a non-profit subsidiary organization under the auspices of the Tailhook Association, Inc. (“TA”.) BAT’s geographic area encompasses Northern California and Nevada.

An elected board of 11 volunteer Directors governs BAT; BAT has no permanent office or other space; meetings of the BAT Board and other BAT activities are normally held aboard the Aircraft Carrier Hornet (CV/CVA/CVS 12) now a museum at the ex-NAS Alameda.

BAT’s general charter mirrors that of TA – to provide support for and foster public appreciation of United States Navy aircraft carrier and other sea-based aviation. BAT pursues this objective in several ways:

•	BAT members must have a current paid-up membership in TA.
•	BAT encourages active participation in TA affairs; a number of BAT members are TA life-members, have served on the TA Board or are long-standing TA members.
•	BAT sponsors an annual Tailhook Educational Foundation scholarship and mans an informational booth at yearly TA reunions.
•	BAT hosts an ongoing quarterly series of very popular hangar-deck lunches aboard Hornet. These events provide a congenial, nostalgic venue where currently active members of the Naval Aviation community – or persons with expertise in related fields – provide BAT members with a view of contemporary operations. These revenue producing BAT events are generally “open” and many interested non-members from the community attend.
•	BAT also provides support for the Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation (ACHF). BAT members have served on the ACHF Board, as museum volunteers and as docents.
•	BAT members have raised and donated tens of thousands of dollars to ACHF operations and for procurement and restoration of historic carrier aircraft including the A-4, F-7, F-8, F-9, F-14, S-2, and TBM projects.
•	BAT members developed and funded a challenge grant that resulted in a substantial contribution to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Fund for assistance to the families of 9-11 Pentagon victims.

The annual amount payable for BAT membership is $10 – a prerequisite is valid current Tailhook Association membership.
